1. Cottonseed Cleaning and Dehulling
The first step in a cottonseed oil mill is cleaning to remove impurities and lint. The residual lint must be below 4.5%. Then, dehulling is carried out with an efficiency rate above 99%, separating hulls and kernels (kernel content in hulls ≤ 0.5%).
2. Flaking and Cooking
The cottonseed flakes should have a thickness between 0.3–0.5 mm. Cooking is performed at 110–115°C to adjust the moisture content to 4–6%, improving oil extraction efficiency.
3. Pre-pressing and Solvent Extraction
Pre-pressing produces crude cottonseed oil, but residual oil remains in the meal. The solvent extraction process then reduces the residual oil content to less than 1%. This stage is key for high oil yield and economic efficiency.
